Dexterity’s story is years in the making. Born out of the changes in publishing over the last few decades, many of us in the industry felt that there was room for innovation – and we made it our mission participate in where publishing’s going, not just where it’s been. With that in mind, we’d describe ourselves as “Book People with Startup Hustle.”

Many of the Dexterity Collective partners worked for larger publishers at one time or another and left to start their own companies, whether as independents (like many of the authors we serve) or small firms of like-minded people.

We are people who still believe in the power of books to make a difference. In an age where it’s increasingly hard to stand out from the crowd, we’re here to give your content not only a voice, but a megaphone.

Matt West
Founder & CEO

Matt has 20+ years in publishing, having worked with everyone from Fortune 500 companies like Amazon and Barnes & Noble to indie bookstores, libraries, and just about everywhere else books are sold. He has worked for both Thomas Nelson (now Harper Collins) and LifeWay’s B&H Publishing Group and held roles in business and product development, sales operations, digital publishing and data strategy before becoming an independent consultant.

Matt most recently served as industry lead for a 9-month project with the Nashville Entrepreneur Center called 1440, an Ingram Content Group-sponsored Accelerator program for tech startups innovating in publishing. He’s a Nashville native, and when he’s not working, he can likely be found tinkering with tech, listening to vinyl, or hiking and camping with family.

Kathryn Notestine
Associate Editor

Kathryn Notestine serves as Associate Editor on the Dexterity team, working with our clients, partners, and community to edit and proof manuscripts as well as manage client projects and deliverables. Kathryn first joined the Dexterity team in 2016 as the company’s first Dexterity Apprentice, an intensive company program designed to train college students working toward a career in publishing. After graduation, Kathryn worked in literary publicity before rejoining Dexterity Books in the spring of 2019.

Kathryn left the Indiana cornfields for the Tennessee rolling hills and hasn’t looked back. When not binge reading books from the library, she is planning her next adventure or dreaming up the perfect bookstore—stacked with snacks, coffee beans, and bestsellers. She is a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, where she earned a B.A. in Book Publishing with an emphasis in Marketing and Publicity and a minor in English Writing.

Kim West
Finance Manager

Kim West handles all things finance for Dexterity. She has previously worked in the financial services, real estate, and education sectors, and she holds a B.A. in Government and International Politics from George Mason University.

The Dexterity Collective is a community of like-minded publishing professionals, either small firms or solopreneurs, who love the art of publishing and love working together to achieve something greater than we can do on our own. We value and respect one another, as well as the shared vision to put author, publisher, and client needs first. Our community of 40+ partners is constantly growing, evolving as fast as the publishing market itself.
